Here are some of the PCR activities I've done while attending Western Washington University. These activities are completed in order to gain skills in 4 categories:
1. Ethics and Professionalism
2. Accessibility, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity
3. Professional Communication
4. Career Preparation

In Fall 2025 I attended the Marketing Career Launch at New Engine’s marketing firm in Seattle. This event gave me the opportunity to network with Western alumni and learn more about what a career in marketing would be like. The Career Launch pushed me out of my comfort zone and interacted with alumni. It gave me the chance to practice my professional communication skills and gave me knowledge about how to manage the job market today. I am now more comfortable interacting with professionals and can manage being in professional spaces. The Career Launch allowed me to see myself as a marketer and help me narrow down what type of job I want in the future. I will utilize my professional communication skills often in my future career as I begin to work in the professional world.

In Fall 2024 I took Mass Media Ethics for my Visual Journalism degree. In the class we discussed ethics of working in journalism and in online spaces. We discussed ethical theories, examined professional codes and standards, and learned the importance of thinking before you post online. This class taught me about how important it is to think ethically before posting online and how easy it can be to fail to consider the ethical implications. The class made me understand how to be ethical and why it’s important in today's world. In my career I’ll use these skills to think critically about any content I produce to ensure it’s ethical.

In Fall 2025 I attended a panel hosted by SMA about AI usage in the Marketing field. This event gave me an insight on how companies and professionals are utilizing AI. As someone who isn’t a big user of AI, it was interesting to learn how professionals utilize AI in their jobs and how much people’s perceptions on AI differ within the field. Some companies required employees to utilize AI for mundane tasks, like sending emails or taking meeting notes. On the other hand, other companies had stricter guidelines on AI usage in the workplace. The panel made me understand how AI is disrupting the marketing industry and knowing how to efficiently land a job. I will utilize my knowledge of AI usage in marketing to prepare myself for what a job looks like during a time of disruption.

In Winter 2025, I took an intro to Management and Organizational Behavior class. This class taught me about how to foster a great workplace environment through organizational behavior and research practices. We learned about organizational behaviors of individuals, groups and companies to explain, predict and change behaviors in the workplace. In the class, my group did an analysis of Etsy’s DEI practices and found they continued to have DEI within their company. This class taught me the importance of good management in the workplace and how a positive workplace is important to me in a company. I’ll use what I learned in this class in my future career to help contribute to positive behaviors and maintain good organizational behaviors.

In Winter 2026, I took Disability, Diversity, and the Mass Media class. This class gave me the opportunity to learn about disabilities and diversity is represented in multiple forms of media. The class made me understand the importance of representation of people in minority groups in the media. It gave me a chance to watch films that did a good and bad job representing people with disabilities, allowing me to learn how important it is to have someone with a disability a part of a company. With removal of DEI, companies are becoming more homogeneous, increasing the amount of misrepresentation of diverse groups of people. I will utilize this knowledge to make a better marketing environment and represent groups properly in any social media posts.

In Fall 2025, I took Consumer Behavior. This class taught me about how consumers think about products and how their opinions inform marketing decisions. I learned how to use an ethical lens while looking at consumer behavior at the individual level and external/cultural level. In the class we worked on improving AS Bookstore to better align them with what their target market wants. My group conducted research, analyzed, and suggested solutions to their problems. I learned how to professionally present our findings to the client and how to make the information clear and concise for them to understand. I will utilize what I learned in my career by critically thinking about what the brand wants to accomplish and how to effectively make the change based on the customers preferences.

In Fall 2025 I took Fundamentals of Marketing Research. This class taught me how to design a research study to meet consumers' specific needs, collect, analyze and use data to make informed decisions about the market, and communicate the findings to others. I learned many foundational skills regarding market research, how to use SPSS, qualtrics, and write up the results in a research paper. Working in a group also allowed me to understand what working in marketing would be like and how important it is to work together in the field. I learned how to work in a group and effectively communicate results to our clients to help improve their business. Marketing Research will benefit me in my career because it gave me an understanding how to analyze and implement data into a product and communicate professionally with a client.

From Fall 2025 to Spring 2026, I was the multimedia editor for Klipsunn Magazine. This job gave me the opportunity to strengthen my skills in photography, videography and podcasts through practice and teaching others my knowledge. I worked directly with Klipsun writers to produce video, podcasts or photo essays for the magazine. I also helped create reels and graphics for Klipsun’s Instagram, even co-creating a campaign to rerelease old Klipsun editions. Through Klipsun I learned how to communicate professionally, work collaboratively with others, and build my confidence while working in creative spaces. I will utilize my experience at Klipsun as evidence for my quality of work and ability to create awesome multimedia work.

During Winter 2025, I attended the Environmental, Sustainability & Energy Career & Internship Fair. This event gave me the opportunity to connect with people outside of my major and learn about ways I could help different types of organizations with marketing or social media. I learned how to communicate with professionals in a professional setting. I was able to connect with people in multiple industries and learn about companies around Washington. I found out more about job opportunities outside of the traditional marketing jobs after college and how I could benefit more than just a company with my work. This event allowed me to learn more about what I’m looking for in a company after college.

In Summer 2025, I was a PR/Marketing intern for Bellingham Alive Magazine. This internship gave me the opportunity to create a short-form social media campaign titled, Business Partner Spotlight, highlighting Bellingham Alive's sponsor’s businesses. In total I created eight short-form videos and two promotional videos. Through my internship I gained first hand experience talking to clients, creating content that an audience watches and working in a professional setting. My internship with Bellingham Alive allowed me to experience what a career in social media marketing would look like and give me an idea of what I want to do for a career. I will utilize my experience at Bellingham Alive as proof I am capable of working in social media.
During my time at Western Washington University, I gained hands-on experience creating content and furthering my goal to work in social media. I produced group and individual projects, creating and managing a campaign, and experience working in a company. Through this work I learned applicable skills and knowledge or the video production process I can bring into my future career. These experiences allowed me to further my communication skills, work ethic and multimedia skills. I will utilize these skills in my career due to how collaborative creative spaces are and how much time content creation can take. Western has set me up for success to succeed in my future career and gave me knowledge on how my future career might be like.
